Foreign affairs
The main tasks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are to promote Norway’s interests internationally and provide assistance to Norwegian nationals abroad. An important part of the Ministry’s work is to make sure that Norway ‘speaks with one voice’ in international forums. In this context, the Ministry works to coordinate the efforts of other ministries and give guidance.
Norway in the UN Security Council 2021-2022
Norway concluded its two-year term on the UN Security Council at the end of 2022. As an elected member of the Security Council, Norway has been a staunch defender of international law and played a key role in ensuring that the Security Council has taken important decisions on complex matters relating to Afghanistan and Syria.
