State Secretary Kravik visited Venezuela

State Secretary Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik visited the Venezuelan capital Caracas on 2 – 3 April.

Norway has over time been engaged in assisting the parties in Venezuela with finding an inclusive solution to the country’s situation, for the benefit of the Venezuelan people.

‘Norway supports a negotiated solution in Venezuela for the wellbeing of its people. The negotiations belong to the Venezuelan parties, and it is up to them to decide on the way forward, ‘ said State Secretary Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik.

Kravik met with Foreign Minister Yván Gil, opposition representatives and the heads of negotiation Jorge Rodríguez and Gerardo Blyde, as well as civil society in Venezuela.

‘We discussed the Venezuelan negotiation process, the upcoming presidential elections, human rights, and bilateral matters’, said Kravik.

‘It is crucial that what the parties have agreed on is implemented and receives broad support from the international community. During my conversations with the parties, I particularly emphasized the efforts to establish the Monitoring and Verification Commission for the Barbados agreement. Moving forward, it will also be important to find constructive solutions to outstanding issues,’ said Kravik.
