Sigrun Aasland was appointed Minister of Climate and Environment on 11 September 2026. She previously served as Minister of Research and Higher Education at the Ministry of Education and Research, and earlier as State Secretary at the Ministry of Climate and Environment.
Aasland has served as Chief Executive Officer of ZERO and Deputy Director of the Agenda think tank. She has also held positions at Econ, Norfund, the World Bank and the analysis company Damvad, where she served as Chief Executive Officer. From 1999 to 2000, she was President of the National Union of Students in Norway (NSU).
Aasland holds a Master's degree in Economics and International Relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC.
