HRH Crown Prince Haakon and Prime Minister Erna Solberg are  representing Norway in the memorial ceremony for Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg today, Tuesday 10 December.

At Soccer City Stadium in Soweto, they are joining South Africans and more than 90 heads of state and government , to bid Mandela farewell.

«I am honoured to be present at this memorial ceremony. Nelson Mandela was a leader not only for his own country but for an entire world.  He was the greatest symbol of hope, freedom and democracy of our time”, says Prime Minister Erna Solberg.

Today, 20 years after Nelson Mandela received the Nobel Peace Prize, this year’s Nobel Ceremony takes place in Oslo.

«This is a good day to remember Nelson Mandela. We should honour  his memory by reaching for his ideals of peace and reconciliation», the Prime Minister says.
