Changes in quarantine rules for travellers from the UK

You will find updated news from the Government on Topic Page The coronavirus situation. General information about the coronavirus can be found on Helsenorge.no.

The government has decided that, effective from Thursday 13 May 12:00 noon, travellers from the UK shall be subject to the same quarantine rules as travellers from the EEA/Schengen area, and not to the rules applicable to other countries outside the EEA/Schengen area.

ʺTravellers from the UK will now be treated equally to travellers from the EEA/Schengen area regarding quarantine hotel requirements. This is particularly due to the fact that we have a good overview of the level of infection in the UK, where the situation is now among the more favourable in Europe. Nevertheless, the UK will still be subject to third country requirements under the entry restrictions regulations,ʺ says Monica Mæland, Minister of Justice and Public Security (Conservative Party).

ʺThe UK is a key trading partner and Norwegian business and industry are also dependent on labour force from the country. Consequently, it is important for Norwegian enterprises that the UK is placed in the same category as other EU/EEA countries with respect to quarantine hotel rules,ʺ says Iselin Nybø, Minister of Trade, Industry and Fisheries (Left Party).

These changes are in line with the recommendations from the Directorate of Health and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH).
