Displaced people from Ukraine may have their residence permit for Norway extended by a further year

The Ministry of Justice and Public Security today made an amendment to Norway’s Immigration Regulations, allowing Ukrainians who have had temporary collective protection for two years to be granted continued residence for a further year. A condition for extension is that the person still meets the conditions for a first-time permit.
Міністерство юстиції та надзвичайних ситуацій внесло сьогодні зміни в імміграційні правила, згідно з якими українці, які мали тимчасовий колективний захист протягом двох років, можуть отримати продовження дозволу на проживання ще на рік. Однак умовою продовження є відповідність вимогам для отримання першого дозволу на проживання.
Уряд продовжує дію тимчасового колективного захисту для переміщених осіб з України. Особи, які мали такий дозвіл на два роки, зможуть продовжити дію дозволу на третій рік. Однак особи, які не відповідають вимогам такого дозволу, не матимуть права на продовження. Це стосується, в тому числі, українців з кількома громадянствами, коли одне з них належить до безпечної країни.
11 березня 2022 року уряд запровадив схему тимчасового колективного захисту для переміщених осіб з України. Цe означає, що особи, які відповідають вимогам, отримують дозвіл на проживання на один рік за спрощеною процедурою та без розгляду заявки про захист в індивідуальному порядку. У січні 2023 року уряд надав можливість продовжити ці дозволи ще на один рік. Перші продовжені дозволи закінчуються в березні 2024 року.
Сьогоднішні зміни в правилах дають oсобам, які відповідають умовам тимчасового колективного захисту, право на продовження дозволу на третій рік. Після закінчення терміну дії, дозвiл буде продовжено Директоратом у справах іноземців (UDI). Oсобам, на яких поширюються дані умови, не потрібно подавати заявку на продовження дії дозволу. UDI та поліція також забезпечить автоматичне оновлення вашої посвідки на проживання.
The Government is continuing the scheme of temporary collective protection for displaced people from Ukraine, and people who have had such a permit for two years can now be granted an extension of their permit for a third year. However, people who no longer belong to the categories covered by the scheme will not be entitled to an extension. This applies, among other things, to Ukrainians with multiple citizenships, when one of the citizenships is in a safe country.
On 11 March 2022, the Government introduced a scheme of temporary collective protection for displaced people from Ukraine. Under the scheme, those who are covered are granted a residence permit for one year following a simplified procedure and without an individual assessment of their need for protection. In January 2023, the Government opened the door for these permits to be extended for one year. The first extended permits expire in March 2024.
The current amendment to the regulations entitles people who still belong to the categories covered by the temporary collective protection scheme to an extension of their permit for a third year. When the permits expire, they will be renewed by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI), and people who are covered by the scheme do not need to apply for such an extension. UDI and the police will also ensure that expired residence cards are renewed.
