Consultation: Seeking input to accelerate the phasing in of zero- and low-emission aircraft in Norwegian aviation

The Ministry of Transport is seeking input on how to accelerate the transition towards zero and low-emission aviation so that the first commercial zero-emission aircraft are phased in as soon as technology permits in Norway.

– One of the central themes in the government's aviation strategy is to facilitate a development of an aviation sector that is environmentally sustainable. This requires, among other things, a conversion to zero and low emission solutions. In order to follow up the strategy on this point, we now want input for our continuing efforts to phase in new technology, initially in regional aviation, says Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygaard.

The Ministry of Transport wishes to obtain input on, and to clarify the need for, specific government measures beyond already existing measures and facilitation from the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority and Avinor. In addition, the Ministry seeks to clarify how measures should be designed to provide the greatest benefit compared to expected costs. How different measures should be prioritized in terms of a timeline is also part of the consultation.

The consultation is aimed at other types of energy carriers than sustainable aviation fuel, for example battery and hydrogen. Sustainable aviation fuel will be followed up through separate processes.

Interested parties other than the participants on the consultation list are also welcome to provide input. The consultation deadline is 29 September 2023.
