I congratulate you with the Sophie Prize 2006.

I was glad to learn that the Sophie Foundation had decided to honour an innovative legal and human rights-based approach to sustainable development, which targets poor and marginalised victims of environmental degradation especially. I strongly believe in the empowerment of people and communities on environmental matters. Access to information, public participation and justice can be amongst our most powerful tools for positive action and change.

I hope the Sophie Prize will inspire you to keep up your good work. I very much look forward to meeting you in Oslo, where I will have the honour of formally presenting you with the Sophie Prize on 15 June.
