"It is important that children do not find the testing too uncomfortable, and test centres will be instructed to choose the least intrusive test method possible", says Minister of Health and Care Services Bent Høie.

The advice from the Norwegian Directorate of Health and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health points out that testing of children can be made less intrusive by taking the test from the nostrils.

Children who often cross the border, for example because of their living situation, are exempt from quarantine. The agencies therefore believe that this means that all children should be tested. An exemption may be granted from testing if it is not possible to carry out the test – for example if the child objects.

This change will enter into force at 12 am on Monday 19 April.
