‘Norway strongly condemns the mass murder of 30 Ethiopian Christians in Libya. The killings are claimed by groups affiliated with Isil. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go to their families and to the people of Ethiopia’, Foreign Minister Børge Brende said.
On 19 April, a video was released by the so-called Islamic State's affiliates in Libya purports to show the killing of Ethiopian Christians. This happened only two months after 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians, held captive by ISIL in Libya, have been killed for no other reason than their beliefs. This incident was also condemned by the Norwegian Government.
‘The attak demonstrates how the unresolved crisis in Libya has given Isil a foothold in the country. The need to find a political solution to the situation is a matter of utmost urgency. The international community needs a unified partner in Libya in order to counter the severe security challenges’, the Foreign Minister said.
