'As we enter holiday seasons for Muslims, Jews and Christians alike, the situation in Israel and Palestine is fragile. I urge all actors to refrain from statements and actions that fuel tensions,' said Minister of Foreign Affairs Anniken Huitfeldt.

'In this regard, I strongly deplore the recent statements made by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, claiming that there is no Palestinian people. Such claims are unacceptable, and we encourage the Israeli Government to distance itself from this statement. It is also important that Israel makes it clear that it respects the territorial integrity of neighbouring states.'

'I remain deeply concerned about the level of violence in the West Bank, and other actions and measures taken by the Israeli Government against the Palestinian people, including the repeal of the Disengagement Law. I am encouraged by the recent Aqaba and Sharm el-Sheikh summits, and call on all parties to implement the agreed measures without further delay.'

'Norway values its longstanding friendship with both the Israeli and the Palestinian peoples. I wish all Israelis and Palestinians a peaceful holiday season' , said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
