The Institute of Marine Research

The Institute of Marine Research advises the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries and other parts of the public administration. The Institute's core scientific areas are fisheries, aquaculture, seafood and ecosystems. The Institute of Marine Research has its head office in Bergen and branches in Tromsø and Arendal.

A large part of the Institute's work takes place as a follow-up of international and national obligations in connection with the work of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), the Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food and Environment (VKM), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), fisheries agreements, legislation and regulations for fisheries, aquaculture and food management, management plan work for Norwegian marine areas and water regulations. The Institute contributes to the work on the global action network during the UN's nutrition decade.
