Ten Chinese undergraduates win study tour to Svalbard

In a national final ten Chinese students were selected for a study tour to Svalbard as part of a joint Sino-Norwegian Project on climate change and environmental research in the Arctic region. The project is jointly organised by the Polar Research Institute of China and the Norwegian Consulate General in Shanghai.
In a national final ten Chinese students were selected for a study tour to Svalbard as part of a joint Sino-Norwegian Project on climate change and environmental research in the Arctic region. The project is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Oslo and is jointly organised by the Polar Research Institute of China and the Norwegian Consulate General in Shanghai.
Since the launch of the project on 10th December 2007, more than 3000 university students have participated. During their stay in Norway the ten selected students aged 18 – 22 will first visit Oslo and Tromsø before attending lectures at the University Center in Longyear-byen. At the end of their stay on Svalbard the students will visit different scientific installations and research facilities in Ny-Ålesund. A large group of Chinese journalists, a Chinese author and representatives from Chinese polar institutes will accompany the students on their tour.
The project is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Oslo, the Norwegian Polar Institute in Tromsø, the University Center in Svalbard, the Chinese Ministry of Education, the State Oceanic Administration and the Chinese International Polar Year (IPY) Committee.
