Mr Solheim commented, “This is a step forward in relation to the Norwegian Government’s increased focus on China. The new consulate general is to provide guidance for Norwegian interests in southern China, a region of great economic, political and cultural importance.”

The new consulate general covers the four coastal provinces of southern China, with a total population of more than 200 million. The region is an important economic centre, accounting for 20% of China’s value creation and around a third of all foreign investment.
