Qatar are a major producer and exporter of petroleum and bilateral contact between the Qatar and Norway on these issues is therefore important for Norway. The minister’s delegation includes representatives of the Norwegian oil and gas industry, and one goal of the visit is to increase awareness of Norwegian industry’s strengths in the region.

Qatar has the world’s largest offshore gas field, North Field, and is currently engaged in a program developing a large export capacity of Liquid Natural Gas (LNG). Norwegian companies have been present in Qatar for a considerable length of time, and today among others Yara, Hydro and Statoil have local offices in Qatar. While in Qatar Mr Enoksen will meet with the Crown Prince His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and the Minister of Energy and Industry Mr. Abdullah al-Attiyeh. He will receive a tour of the LNG facility at Ras Laffan. Topics to be raised during discussions with the minister include developments in the LNG market, current activities in the Norwegian petroleum sector, the status of Norwegian companies in Qatar and future co-operation on relevant issues.
