Hydro announced today that it plans to build a full-scale pilot plant for climate-friendly and energy-efficient production of aluminium at Karmøy.

‘This investment shows that the green shift is under way. I am delighted to be here in Karmøy and to be able to share this historic moment with Hydro’s employees,’ said Prime Minister Erna Solberg at a meeting for all employees at Hydro Karmøy on Wednesday morning.

This project will be the largest industrial investment in mainland Norway for over ten years. According to Ms Solberg, it is the most important industrial investment for decades.

‘The Government is investing heavily in Enova with a view to enabling Norwegian industry to develop new, climate-friendly technology. We can now see that the support schemes are having the desired effect. Enova’s pledge of NOK 1.5 billion to this project is the largest contribution the company has ever made, and I am very pleased that they have done so,’ said Ms Solberg.

Enova is a state-owned enterprise and is the driving force for environmentally friendly energy restructuring in private and public enterprises in Norway.
