Mental health, substance use problems and violence

The Ministry of Health and Care Services is responsible for a comprehensive and coordinated policy on mental health and substance use issues. The policy aims to promote good health and quality of life, prevent problems from developing, and ensure that individuals with mental health challenges, disorders, substance use problems or addiction receive the necessary support and high-quality services. The ministry also plays a key role in efforts to prevent and combat violence and abuse, and to provide appropriate follow-up and assistance to individuals who are exposed to or perpetrate violence and abuse. Work on mental health, substance use problems and violence is viewed in a holistic context.
