Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre held a virtual meeting for world leaders on how to follow up the call for control over development of frontier AI models.
‘AI is already transforming lives and bringing opportunities. But there was strong agreement in the meeting that governments cannot look away from the warnings about potential risks that come from across the AI ecosystem,’ said Prime Minister Støre.
“More countries have been joining the call for control. What we are aiming to do is sustain the momentum and try to identify realistic pathways forward. The time to act in managing risks related to AI and ensuring access to AI is now” said President Stubb.
In the meeting, political leaders from 31 countries across the world shared their perspectives and inputs on international cooperation in AI risk management, how to ensure global trust, and their views on the path to establishing common standards.
The meeting will be followed by an expert level process between the interested countries to explore options for improving AI safety and security, as well as moving forward the discussion about potential international mechanisms for ensuring the safe and secure development of AI globally.
