It is problematic when individual countries impose sanctions on UN representatives for fulfilling mandates entrusted to them by the UN Human Rights Council.
The UN's Special Rapporteurs are protected as experts on mission for the United Nations, in accordance with the 1946 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations.
UN's Special Rapporteurs serve in an independent capacity and are afforded specific protections to uphold and safeguard this independence.
