‘I conveyed Norway’s concerns about the situation in the Middle East, especially the global impacts of the conflict involving the Strait of Hormuz. The conflict must be resolved using diplomacy, not pressure or violence. All the parties have a responsibility to seek solutions and help to find a more constructive way forward.’ said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

During the meeting the Prime Minister emphasised that the escalation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Middle East is affecting the entire world.

‘I stressed that Iranian attacks on civilian ships and strikes on other countries in the region are unacceptable and serve to heighten tensions and create instability.’ said Mr Støre.

The Prime Minister also expressed deep concern over human rights violations in Iran.

‘Open and direct contact is important, also in cases where we have widely differing views. I made our position on regional security, international law, human rights and the Law of the Sea very clear,’ said the Prime Minister.
