As delivered
Good evening, Presidents, colleagues, journalists,
Norway is happy to host two close friends, President of Ukraine, Volodomyr Zelenskyy, who is a frequent guest, and my friend and ally and colleague, President Stubb of Finland.
Norway is supporting Ukraine, supporting Ukraine’s legitimate defense against military aggression, and supporting Ukraine’s right to live in a just and durable peace.
We have always made it clear; there will be nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.
I would like to thank President Stubb for working closely on this issue. We are likeminded and we are also Russia’s neighbor and always been in search of stability and peace in our neighborhood and in Europe.
I would like to acknowledge that Envoy Steve Witkoff from President Trump has been with us today at this meeting. His colleague Jared Kushner has been with us on video from the U.S. – And also, for their efforts over time to move forward towards the conditions for a just and lasting peace.
We believe that peace is possible and necessary for Ukraine and for Europe and for the entire world.
We have hosted today – I would say – good and constructive talks; necessary after events of the last week.
We have agreed that working together is crucial, and we need now to stay very focused, look forward and make real efforts to move the diplomatic process in the right direction. U.S. and European teams have done substantive work on key issues, together with Ukraine.
Steve Witkoff will fly tomorrow to St. Petersburg where he will be meeting with Russian leadership – and exchange ideas from this meeting and the proposals that have been worked on by European and American colleagues – and possibly pave the way for a meeting at leaders’ level.
We have discussed today issues linked to the security of Ukraine, prosperity plan after the war, issues related to territory and issues related to sanctions. And questions related to European security order. In the aftermath of this war, it will be European reality and for us who live here.
And I will finally like again to acknowledge our American and European partners who have done substantive work.
We have a basis to work on, and after this press conference we will be joined at the dinner with National Security Advisors from the European Union, NATO, the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy.
So, this is ongoing work, a work in progress, but we have made good steps together today. I would now like to pass the floor to President Zelenskyy.
