“An equitable distribution policy, full employment and labour rights are goods that are being challenged by increased globalisation. If we are to succeed in enabling others to share these goods, which we ourselves take for granted, Norway must also take part in lifting efforts to combat social dumping to the global arena,” said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

“The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has done a great deal to put these issues on the agenda. ILO is important both as a political arena and as a partner. But other institutions, such as the World Trade Organisation (WTO), are also playing a vital role. I am therefore very pleased that today’s conference has brought together a broad range of organisations and representatives of the business community,” said Minister of the Environment and International Development Erik Solheim.

On Friday 5 September, the Norwegian Government, the Norwegian Trade Union Confederation and the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise will be hosting, in collaboration with The Financial Times, the conference “Decent Work: A Key to Social Justice for a Fair Globalisation” at the Hotel Bristol in Oslo.

  • The speeches and statements presented at the conference will be transmitted live on web-tv.

By hosting this conference, Norway is taking the lead in the campaign to promote decent work. The conference is a follow-up to the Government’s policy platform,” said Minister of Labour and Social Inclusion Dag Terje Andersen.

In addition to the three ministers, other speakers at the conference include Juan Somavia, Director General of ILO, Pascal Lamy, Director General of the WTO, Roar Flåthen, President of the Norwegian Trade Union Confederation, and Finn Bergesen Jr., Director General of the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise.
