Former minister, member of the Storting and Auditor General Bjarne Mørk Eidem has been appointed to represent Norway in the Nordic Border Barrier Forum.

The Border Barrier Forum was established by the ministers responsible for Nordic cooperation in October 2007, in response to an initiative taken by the Nordic Prime Ministers. The main task of the forum is to identify all forms of border barriers that impede, prevent or obstruct the cross-border mobility and activities of private individuals and companies in the Nordic region. The Nordic governments have been giving priority to efforts to remove border barriers for several years.

The forum is chaired by the Finnish ambassador Ole Norrbäck. Together with the Secretary General of the Nordic Council, he reports to the Nordic Prime Ministers on the work being done to remove border barriers. The forum works independently and vis-à-vis the political system and the public administration at both national and Nordic level.

The Border Barrier Forum will take a leading role in efforts to remove border barriers and facilitate access to information.

Mr Mørk Eidem is a politician with long experience from the Storting. He has served as Minister of Fisheries and been a member of the Storting’s Presidium. He also has experience of Nordic cooperation, both as the minister responsible for Nordic cooperation and as a member of the Nordic Council for several terms. He has also served as chairman of the Nordic Council committee responsible for internationalisation and organisational efficiency. He has held the post of Auditor General for 15 years.
