On May 4th Gassnova delivered its study on potential full-scale CCS projects in Norway to the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. The pre-feasibility study shows that several industrial actors could be willing to continue studying the possibilites for CCS. Their interest in participating in a CCS project depends on the framework conditions established by the state.

- Gassnova’s pre-feasibility study indicates that it may be possible to realize our ambition of a full-scale CCS demonstration project in Norway, says Minister of Petroleum and Energy Tord Lien. We will study the report thoroughly and consider how we’ll follow up the input from the industrial actors and Gassnova’s recommendations.

The Government’s ambition is to realize at least one full-scale CCS demonstration project by 2020. This ambition is also part of the Government’s CCS strategy, which was presented last autumn. The pre-feasibility study that was delivered Monday is an important step on the path to realizing full-scale CCS in Norway.

With a progress as outlined in Gassnova’s pre-feasibility study, a basis for an investment decision for a CCS project could be presented the autumn 2018 at the earliest.  This entails that realizing full-scale CCS demonstration in Norway by 2020 will be very challenging. The Goverment will now examine the pre-feasibility study and its recommendations, and will provide an orientation to Stortinget in the fiscal budget for 2016.
