On 1 October 2004, the Ministry of Fisheries had its name changed to the Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs.
On 16 October 2013, responsibility for coastal and environment affairs in the Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs was transferred to the minister responsible for the Ministry of Transport and Communications, while responsibility for research, administration and personnel affairs in the Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs was transferred to the minister responsible for the Ministry of Trade and Industry. On 1 January 2014, these affairs were transferred from the Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs to the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Ministry of Trade and Industry respectively. The Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs was now abolished. Fisheries affairs were transferred to an additional minister in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, which now had its name changed to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries.
