Goals for International Cultural Policy

The Ministry of Culture and Equality aims to facilitate a broad range of cultural activity in Norway. The development of art and culture in Norway depends, among other things, on international influences and collaboration with actors and practitioners in other countries.
The Ministry of Culture and Equality has defined the following goals for our international cultural policy:
- Artistic freedom and freedom of expression are respected in all countries.
- Norwegian actors make use of international opportunities to create and disseminate art and culture that is sustainable, diverse, and of high quality.
- Cultural expressions from Norway achieve recognition worldwide.
These goals set the direction for the Ministry’s international work, as well as sets the expectations for how international cooperation can contribute to a stronger arts and cultural sector in Norway. The goals support national cultural policy objectives and position Norway as a clear contributor in collaboration with other countries by promoting a democratically shaped cultural policy and creating favourable conditions for international cooperation.
