Pharmaceuticals and medical devices
The overall goal of pharmaceutical policy is to contribute to improved public health. Four pharmaceutical policy objectives have been defined: ensuring that treatment with pharmaceuticals is of good quality, low pharmaceutical prices, equal and reliable access to effective pharmaceuticals and facilitating research and innovation.
Medical devices – a key part of health care
Medical devices include all equipment intended to diagnose, prevent, monitor, treat or alleviate disease, injury or disability in humans.
Marketing authorisation of medicinal products
A medicinal product may only be placed on the market in the European Economic Area (EEA) when a marketing authorisation has been issued. There are four procedures for marketing authorisation.
