An agreement between Norway and the EU on administrative cooperation to combat VAT fraud came into effect on September 1, 2018.

Following the conclusion of the Agreement, the EU has further developed its tools for administrative cooperation to combat VAT fraud more effectively. At Norway's initiative, the Agreement has been renegotiated to ensure that Norway can utilize several of the EU's new cooperative tools. The European Commission has facilitated the negotiations in a good manner and ensured effective continued collaboration. The amended Agreement was signed in Brussels on October 2, 2024.

Today, the Norwegian Government presented a proposition to the Storting (the Norwegian Parliament) for consent to entry the amended Agreement into force.

– The Agreement is an example of the important and beneficial cooperation we have with the EU. In the Tax Administration's control work in the context of international trade, this is vital in combating value-added tax crime, says State Secretary Ellen Reitan.
