‘As the world still receives new information about the scale and brutality of mass killings and atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher, chilling news is emerging from Kordofan. Aereal attacks and drone strikes have reportedly killed large numbers of civilians. This is combined with an increasingly desperate humanitarian situation in the besieged cities of Kadugli, Dilling and El Obeid, where famine is looming and the trapped civilians are in a daily struggle for survival,’ the minister says.

‘We cannot allow besieged cities of Kordofan to become another El Fasher. Norway reminds the Rapid Support Forces of their obligation to protect civilians and to facilitate for humanitarian access. We remind all armed parties of their obligation to do their utmost to shield civilians from harm. This includes refraining from air strikes in heavily populated areas. We call on all countries and actors that have influence on the RSF to apply that pressure in order to avoid new mass atrocities,’ Barth Eide concludes.
