— We have had a close cooperation with Great Britan for many years on Carbon capture and storage, and I’m pleased that we are now strengthening our partnership to also include hydrogen. Hydrogen will likely play an important role in cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and it’s important to share and learn from each other, says Minister of Petroleum and Energy Terje Aasland.

The annex confirms an extended cooperation between the authorities in the two countries to regularly exchange knowledge and experience related to the use of low carbon hydrogen on production, transport and storage as well as on developing standards and certification. The annex was signed during the opening of the business seminar in connection with the Norwegian Crown Prince couple's visit to Great Britain. The event brought together many Norwegian and British business actors within the energy field.

Background

Last year, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and former Prime Minister Boris Johnson signed a joint declaration on strategic cooperation, including the field of green transition.

The annex signed by Norwegian and British side today, is a concretization of this agreement.

Norway and the UK have had a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on carbon capture and storage since 2018.
