Indonesia’s Foreign Minister in Oslo

‘The partnership between Norway and Indonesia has been strengthened considerably in recent years and is set to expand in many core areas for both countries. The strategic focus is on climate, forests, oceans and the green transition’, said Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt.

Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi visited Norway on 11-13 June. As part of the program, Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt chaired the Norwegian-Indonesian Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation.

‘The consultations provided a good opportunity to review the bilateral relationship and to exchange views on international issues of common concern, including regional and geopolitical developments’, said Huitfeldt.

Both ministers emphasized that the Norwegian-Indonesian partnership is stronger than ever. Trade is increasing, the extensive climate and forest partnership has resumed with new vigor, and cooperation is intensifying on sustainable ocean management, the green transition, renewable energy, and circular economy. The two ministers discussed how to enhance the partnership across sectors, including trade and investments, and how to utilize the Indonesia-EFTA Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement to further fortify economic ties.

The ministers also exchanged views on pressing regional and international issues, including Russia’s war in Ukraine, the situation in Afghanistan and Myanmar, and stressed the importance of international law and a rules-based international order.

Foreign Minister Marsudi also had separate meetings with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and with Minister of Climate and the Environment Espen Barth Eide. She was also a keynote speaker at the Oslo Forum.
