The Ministry of Culture yesterday presented its proposal for new regulations on financial incentives for the production of international films and series in Norway, and ask for input from national and international stakeholders in a public consultation.
The Government has proposed to introduce financial incentives to stimulate an increase in the number of international films and series shot in Norway, with effect from 2016. This is a follow-up of the White Paper on film policy (May 2015) and the Ministry of Culture`s budget proposal for 2016. The government has allocated 45 million NOK to the scheme in the 2016 national budget proposal.
"The Government wants to facilitate both national and international film production in Norway. The new scheme will serve as a tool to fulfill this purpose. I believe Norway will become even more attractive as location for international film production as a result of the new scheme", says Thorhild Widvey, Minister of Culture.
Consulted bodies are requested to send any comments to the Ministry of Culture by December 14th 2015.
