Strengthening Enova

The government’s overarching objective in the National Budget 2016 is to promote employment, activity and realignment. The budget contains proposals designed to boost Enova’s investment in energy and climate measures and the development of innovative, forward-looking energy and climate technology. Under the government’s proposal, Enova’s funding will total over NOK 2.3 billion in 2016, an increase of NOK 88 million from 2015.

“The government is taking steps to encourage more efficient energy use and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. As we have seen through several cases in the past year, such improvements help make energy-intensive industry more competitive,” says Minister of Petroleum and Energy Tord Lien.

Enova runs programmes in many different areas. At the time of its establishment, Enova’s primary focus was on traditional energy efficiency measures and the adoption of new renewable energy sources. Since then, energy and climate technology has developed into a priority area. In 2015, Enova was given the task of encouraging a more environmentally friendly transport sector. Enova is now engaged in activities in all sectors of the economy.

“The government has assigned Enova new responsibilities relating to the development of climate-friendly transport solutions. In my view, additional funding is vital, and I look forward to seeing the results of this investment,” says Minister of Petroleum and Energy Lien.

In 2015, Enova’s programme aimed at supporting energy efficiency improvements for households was expanded to NOK 250 million and relaunched on an entitlement basis. For 2016, the government has proposed allowing this support to be paid out to households in conjunction with the finalisation of individual tax assessments.
