Presentation of the report from the Norwegian Policy Coherence for Development Commission

Presentation of the report from the Norwegian Policy Coherence for Development Commission

The Norwegian Policy Coherence for Development Commission (Utviklingsutvalget) completed its mission on 9 September 2008 by submitting its report “Coherent for Development?” (Samstemt for utvikling? NOU 2008:14) to Erik Solheim, Minister of the Environment and International Development.

The Commission presents a range of interesting proposals with the objective of contributing to strengthening the way Norwegian policies over a wide range support development in poor countries.

A broad public hearing for the report is scheduled to last until 31 December 2008. Some of the Commission’s proposals are part of broader political processes and therefore already being dealt with. The Government will decide by the end of the hearing period which other proposals to follow up.

The report will be translated into English in its entirety and a link will be posted on this website. English speaking readers – not least in developing countries – will then have the opportunity to voice their views. Until the translation is completed – which will take another few weeks – we offer you the opportunity to take a look at the introductory chapters containing the Commission’s mandate, an overview of the themes it discussed and the main conclusions of the report.
