The Oslo Conference on Safe Schools: Protecting Education from Attack, was organised in Oslo 28–29 May 2015. The main objective of the Conference was for states to endorse the Safe Schools Declaration.
As a result of armed conflict, 28 million children are currently out of school and are being denied their right to education. The military use of schools and universities has been documented in 25 conflict zones worldwide. These figures bear witness to the devastating impact of armed conflict on children and young people.
The Oslo Conference on Safe Schools: Protecting Education from Attack was held in Oslo on 28–29 May 2015. At the Conference, representatives of states came together to show their interest in – and commitment to – the common goal of enhancing the protection of schools and education in situations of conflicts and crisis. The main objective of the Conference was for states to endorse the Safe Schools Declaration, and to make a commitment to use the Guidelines for Protecting Schools and Universities from Military Use in Conflict Situations.The report from the conference and other relevant documents are available here.
