Ministry of Education and Research (of 2006) (2006–)

The Ministry of Education and Research is responsible for primary and secondary school, upper secondary and tertiary vocational education and higher education sectors, kindergartens, cultural schools, vocational education and training and adult learning. The Ministry is also responsible for research and integration.

On 1 January 2006, the Ministry of Education and Research (of 2002) had its name in Norwegian changed to «Kunnskapsdepartementet» («Ministry of Knowledge»), listed here as the Ministry of Education and Research (of 2006). Kindergarten affairs were transferred from the Ministry of Children and Family Affairs (of 1991). This now had its name changed to the Ministry of Children and Equality, listed here as the Ministry of Children and Equality (of 2006).

On 18 October 2007, responsibility for higher education affairs was transferred to an additional minister in the Ministry of Education and Research (of 2006). On 23 March 2012, the system of an additional minister for higher education affairs was abolished.

On 22 January 2019, responsibility for higher education affairs was transferred to an additional minister in the Ministry of Education and Research (of 2006). At the same time, responsibility for integration affairs in the Ministry of Justice and Public Security was transferred to the minister responsible for the Ministry of Education and Research (of 2006). On 3 May 2019, integration affairs were transferred to the Ministry of Education and Research (of 2006) from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
