Ministry of Local Government and Modernisation (2014–2021)

The Ministry is responsible for housing policy, the Planning and Building Act, local government finances and local administration, ICT Policy and Public Sector Reform, rural and regional policy, the conduct of elections, government employer policy, Sami and minority affairs and national mapping and geodata policy.

On 1 January 2014, the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development had its name changed to the Ministry of Local Government and Modernisation. A number of affairs were transferred from the abolished Ministry of Government Administration, Reform and Church Affairs.

On 22 January 2019, responsibility for digitalisation affairs were transferred to an additional minister in the Ministry of Local Government and Modernisation. This minister was also given responsibility for electronic communication affairs in the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and for digital affairs in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries. On 3 May 2019, these affairs were transferred to the Ministry of Local Government and Modernisation from the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries.
