Ministry of Trade and Industry (1997–2013)

On 1 January 1997, the Ministry of Industry and Energy had its name changed to the Ministry of Trade and Industry. Petroleum and energy affairs were transferred to the new Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (of 1997), while trade and shipping affairs were transferred to the Ministry of Trade and Industry from an additional minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On 18 June 2004, responsibility for IT and competition affairs in the Ministry of Trade and Industry was transferred to the minister responsible for the Ministry of Government Administration and Labour (of 1998). On 1 October 2004, these affairs were transferred to the Ministry of Government Administration and Labour (of 1998), which now had its name changed to the Ministry of Modernisation.

On 1 January 2014, fisheries affairs were transferred to an additional minister in the Ministry of Trade and Industry from the abolished Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs. The Ministry of Trade and Industry now had its name changed to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries.
