Ownership Department
The Ownership Department's main task is to contribute to professional management of the State's direct ownership in companies. The Department manages the State's ownership in 20 companies, including listed companies such as Equinor, DNB Bank, Telenor and Norsk Hydro, wholly-owned companies such as Statkraft, Posten Bring and Nysnø, and some partly owned unlisted companies. The Department is the Government's Central Ownership Unit and serves also as a resource and competence centre for ownership environments in other ministries. The Department also acts as a professional secretariat for the Minister of Trade and Industry and the Government in the formulation of the Government’s ownership policy.

Economic Policy Department
The Economic policy department develops and implements policies and framework conditions for business and industry and has a central role designing a comprehensive business policy that facilitates restructuring and green transition. The department has six sections and 50 employees.

Department of Maritime Policy and Coastal Development
Department of Maritime Policy and Coastal Development has overall responsibility for the Ministry's work on maritime industry policies: shipping, shipyards, and maritime equipment and service providers. The Department is responsible for the work on maritime legislation in IMO, ILO and the EU and for national maritime regulations, and has responsibility for the management of the Norwegian Maritime Authority. Department of Maritime Policy and Coastal Development is responsible for maritime related elements in bilateral agreements and within the WTO as well as international maritime market developments. The departement follows the EU maritime work and takes care of the follow-up of the government's Maritime strategy, policies for the environment, research/innovation and maritime skills, maritime financial instruments and short sea shipping.

Trade Policy Department
The Trade Policy Department is responsible for bilateral free trade agreements, promotion of Norwegian businesses abroad, trade in seafood, the officially supported export credits system and for contributing to the development of the EU/EEA single market.

Research and Innovation Department
The Research and Innovation Department is responsible for developing and implementing Norway´s innovation and industrial research policy, as well as policy regarding activities related to outer space. Responsible cabinet ministers for its portfolio are both the Minister of Trade and Industry and the Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy.

Department for Aquaculture
The Department for Aquaculture is responsible for all matters related to the aquaculture industry. There is a wide range of topics in the department's portfolio, aquaculture policy and management, environmental sustainability of the aquaculture industry including fish health and –welfare, and licensing rules.

Department for Fisheries
The Department for Fisheries is responsible for matters related to fisheries. There is a wide range of topics in the department's portfolio, including quota negotiations and international fisheries agreements, IUU fishing, regulation of and the right to engage in fishing, regulation of the fishing fleet.

Department of Competition Policy and Economic Analysis
The Department has the overall responsibility for competition policy and economic analysis.
