Cereal seed

Requirements to seeds applies to the production with a view to marketing, import and the marketing of cereal seed. Different specified requirements in connection with import of cereal seed.

Seeds with a view to marketing must have been produced under official examination or examination under official supervision and satisfy the quality conditions. National authorities in each EEA member state must have certified the seed lots.

Specific conditions that has to be fulfilled for cereal seed:

  1. The seed lot shall be accompanied by an official certificate attesting that the seed has been cultivated on area where no Avena fatua was found in the growing season.
  2. The seed lot shall be accompanied by an official certificate attesting that the seed lot has been sampled and analysed for occurrence of Avena fatua. The sample shall be of 1 kg per 10 ton. The sample shall not contain any seed of Avena fatua, and a new sample cannot affect the first result.

In addition to the official label, the supplier shall in Norwegian language, give information on the packages about species, variety, category, company etc.

Generally, it is prohibited to import or market seeds if the seed contains narcotic substances, or is derived from a plant containing narcotic substances.

Generally, it is prohibited to import or market seeds of genetically modified plants except they are approved in Norway under the Gene Technology Act.
