Department of Education and Training

The Department of Education and Training has overall responsibility for the thirteen years of primary and secondary education, as well as for Folk High Schools and the statutory entitlements of adults to a basic education.

 

This includes formulating policies on compulsory education, which are then implemented by the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training.

The Department consists of two sections:

  • Section for Quality Development
  • Section for Steering

The Department also manages the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training, the National Parents’ Committee for Primary and Secondary Education (FUG), the Norwegian Centre for ICT in Education and the State School for Gardeners and Florists (VEA).

The department is headed by a Director General.
