Department of Policy Analysis, Lifelong Learning and International Affairs

The Department of Analysis, International Affairs and Lifelong Learningpromotes and initiates work on analysis and documentation within the Ministry. Its responsibilities include educational research, statistics and indicators, and political analyses within all of the Ministry’s areas of activity.


The department coordinates international cooperation on education and research at the Ministry, and arranges political visits to and from Norway. It also coordinates the Ministry’s Nordic and international collaborations within the framework of the Nordic Council of Ministers, EEA/EU, OECD and UNESCO, and acts as the secretariat for the Norwegian National Commission for UNESCO.

The department is responsible for continuing to develop national policy on skills, including lifelong learning. AIK is also responsible for managing Skills Norway.

The department is headed by a Director General.
