Departments
The Ministry has nine departements, in addition to the Press Office and the Section for European and International Affairs.

Department of Administration
The Department of Administration is the Ministry’s administration and operations department with responsibility for pay and personnel policy, documentation and ICT.

Migration Department
The Migration Department is responsible for formulating and coordinating legislation and policies on immigration, asylum seekers and refugees.

Press Office
The Press Office works as the information adviser for the political and administrative management, as well as for the nine departments.

Legislation Department
The Legislation Department is the legal expertise department serving the Government and the central government administration.

Polar Affairs Department
The tasks of the Polar Affairs Department are the matters dealt with by the Ministry of Justice concerning the Norwegian Arctic and Antarctic polar regions including the administration carried out by the Governor of Svalbard, preparation of the annual Svalbard budget and coordination of the Polar affairs of the central government administration.

Police Department
The Police Department and the Directorate of the Police constitues the central authority for the police. The Police department is administratively responsible for the Superior Prosecution Authority and the Military Disciplinary Authority.

Department of Public Security
The Department of Public Security is responsible for the overall coordination of public security as set out by the Instructions for the Ministries’ work with civil protection and emergency preparedness of 1 September 2017.

Civil Affairs Department
The Department of Civil Affairs has a broad field of activity that primarily concerns the rights of individual citizens.
