The section has chief responsibility for the Ministry's follow-up of the EEA Agreement, EFTA and the Nordic Council of Ministers, as well as the EEA and Norway Grants, and the Nordic environmental financing institution NEFCO. It is also responsible for environmental aspects of trade agreements, the Environmental Information Act, the Aarhus Convention and state aid.

Environmental aspects in trade and investment agreements, bilateral and multilateral (WMO and EFTA). Ensure compliance with the EEA agreements in areas under the Ministry of the Environment’s authority. Strategic work towards EU institutions and bilateral contacts with EU/EEA countries. Environmental matters related to the Nordic Council of Ministers. Sustainable production and consumption, including environmental labelling and environmental requirements in public procurement. The Norwegian Environmental Information Act, the Aarhus Convention regarding the right to information about the environment and coordination of work on multilateral environmental issues in international law.
