Active ownership is a key tool in the management of the Government Pension Fund. Norges Bank and Folketrygdfondet exercise the ownership rights of the GPFG and the GPFN, respectively, independently of the Ministry of Finance.
The mandate from the Ministry stipulates that active ownership shall be based on the UN Global Compact, the OECD Principles of Corporate Governance and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.
Both Norges Bank and Folketrygdfondet have, in line with international developments, expanded and developed their active ownership. The interaction between active ownership and asset management in general has increased over time.
