Civil Affairs Department
The Civil Affairs Department is responsible for a broad range of specialist areas that are important for safeguarding the rights of individual citizens and facilitating sound judicial procedures.

Department of Correctional and Mediation Services
The Department of Correctional and Mediation Services is responsible for the execution of sentences, i.e. management of the Norwegian Correctional Service and the National Mediation Service, including budget, regulatory provisions (the Execution of Sentences Act and the National Mediation Service Act) and long-term planning.

Department of Governance and Organisation
The Department of Governance and Organisation (SOA) leads coordinating activities relating to the state budget, government consultations and government memoranda, and international affairs. The Department also manages coordination, development and quality assurance of the Ministry’s governance of its subordinate and affiliated agencies.

Department of Police Affairs
The Department of Police Affairs is responsible for outlining the main policies for the development and agency management of the Police and the Police Security Service, in both the short and long term. Legislation and regulatory development, prevention and countering crime, police preparedness, national security, and international work, fall within the department’s area of responsibility.

Legislation Department
The Ministry of Justice and Public Security's Legislation Department is a legal expertise body serving the Government and the central government administration.

Migration Department
The Migration Department (INN) has overall responsibility for coordinating and implementing the state's policies on immigration, asylum seekers and refugees.

Polar Affairs Department
The Polar Affairs Department is responsible for coordinating matters relating to the polar regions in the central government administration – the Arctic, including Svalbard and Jan Mayen, and the Antarctic.

The Press Office works as the information adviser for the political and administrative management, as well as for the nine departments.
