Section for Courts, Lawyers and Legal Aid

The Section for Courts, Lawyers and Legal Aid is tasked with administering and developing the regulations that deal with the courts, and is responsible for the professional dialogue with the National Courts Administration.

The section is also responsible for the regulations for lawyers and other parties who provide legal assistance, including rules concerning qualification requirements, lawyers' rights and obligations and regulation of an efficient supervisory and disciplinary system. Furthermore, the section is responsible for the regulations that apply to free legal aid, the purpose of which is to ensure the provision of necessary legal assistance for persons who do not have the financial means to secure legal aid. The section also follows up on Norway's international obligations within the field.
