Both Mexico and the United States are major producers and exporters of petroleum, and over the years Norway has had regular contact between the countries on petroleum related issues.

Mr. Odd Roger Enoksen, Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy, will visit Mexico and the USA 21th to 28th of March.

Both Mexico and the United States are major producers and exporters of petroleum, and over the years Norway has had regular contact between the countries on petroleum related issues. The US Gulf of Mexico has also become one of the most important markets for the Norwegian supply and service industry. Thus, bilateral contact between the USA and Norway is important.

In Mexico, Minister Enoksen will meet the Mexican Secretary for Energy, the corporate management of the public oil and gas company PEMEX, as well as representatives of other industries.

The minister will also take part in a seminar where both Mexican and Norwegian petroleum industry are represented. The aim of the visit is to discuss oil market issues and to promote industry corporation.

In the United States the Minister will first visit Houston. Here, the main purpose is to promote the Norwegian oil and gas industry’s competence for operations in the US Gulf of Mexico. The Minister will attend an Intsok Conference focusing on the Norwegian experience with offshore operations in deep waters as well as in the arctic. Mr. Enoksen will meet with US oil companies, Statoil and Hydro as well as Norwegian suppliers based in Houston.

In Washington, Enoksen will among others meet with Secretary of Energy Samuel W. Bodman and the Assistant to the President for Economic Policy Allan B Hubbard. The discussions will address issues such as security of energy supplies, the High North, climate changes, carbon capture and storage, and the potential for cooperation within energy research and development.
