Statement on the forced entry into the Mexican Embassy in Quito

Norway condemns the forced entry by the Ecuadorian police into the premises of the Mexican Embassy in Quito which is a clear breach of international law.
Diplomatic premises and diplomatic staff enjoy a special status under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961. This status must be protected and respected.
We encourage the parties to return to dialogue and resolve the current crises based on both countries’ proud diplomatic traditions.
