Økonomisk samarbeid og faglig bistand

   Det er partenes forståelse at Norge og Sveits hovedsakelig vil gjennomføre samarbeidet omtalt i artikkel 3 innenfor rammen av sin bilaterale utviklingspolitikk, mens Island og Liechtenstein vil bidra til dette samarbeidet innenfor rammen av EFTAs program for faglig bistand.

Beskyttelse av immaterielle rettigheter

   I henhold til EØS-avtalen skal EFTA-statene i sin lovgivning etterkomme de materielle kravene i Den europeiske patentkonvensjon av 5. oktober 1973. Det er Islands og Norges oppfatning at forpliktelsene etter artikkel 17 (Beskyttelse av immaterielle rettigheter) i sak ikke skiller seg fra forpliktelsene etter EØS-avtalen.

   EFTA-statene og Kongeriket Jordan erkjenner betydningen av regionalt samarbeid i Middelhavsområdet. Målet med dette samarbeidet er å tilrettelegge for videre utvikling av et fritt handelssamkvem, både mellom partene og innenfor regionen, som et bidrag til opprettelse av en frihandelssone mellom europeiske land og landene rundt Middelhavet.

   Videre er EFTA-statene og Kongeriket Jordan enige om å utforske mulighetene til, på gjensidig basis mellom alle parter, å inkludere Det europeiske fellesskap i avtalens bestemmelser om kumulasjon av opprinnelse.

3. 5

   EFTA-statene og Kongeriket Jordan er enige om å vurdere en videre utvidelse og forbedring av kumulasjonsmulighetene, særlig i forhold til landene i Den arabiske liga.

Utferdiget i Vaduz 21. juni 2001 i ett originaleksemplar på engelsk, som skal deponeres hos den norske regjering. Depositaren skal sende bekreftede kopier til alle signatarpartene, og til parter som tiltrer denne avtale. Economic co-operation and technical assistance

   It is the understanding of the Parties that the co-operation referred to in Article 3 will be carried out by Norway and Switzerland mainly in the framework of their bilateral development policy, while Iceland and Liechtenstein will contribute to such co-operation within the framework of the EFTA technical assistance programme.

Protection of intellectual property

   Under the EEA Agreement the EFTA States shall comply in their legislation with the substantive provisions of the European Patent Convention of 5 October 1973. It is the understanding of Iceland and Norway that the obligations under Article 16 (Protection of intellectual property) do not differ in substance from the obligations under the EEA.

   EFTA States and the Kingdom of Jordan acknowledge the importance of regional co-operation in the Mediterranean area. The aim of such co-operation is to provide opportunities for further development of free trade relations between the Parties, as well as within the region, as a contribution to the establishment of a Euro-Mediterranean free trade zone.

   Furthermore, the EFTA States and the Kingdom of Jordan agree to explore the possibilities on a reciprocal basis between all Parties to include the European Community into the provisions of the Agreement governing cumulation of origin.

3. 5

   The EFTA States and the Kingdom of Jordan agree to consider further extension and improvement of cumulation possibilities, in particular with countries of the Arab League.

DONE at Vaduz, this 21^st day of June 2001, in a single original in the English language, which shall be deposited with the Government of Norway. The Depositary shall transmit certified copies to all Signatories, and Parties acceding to this Agreement.
